In support of scientific research efforts to study trematode insects in Basra Governorate, the University of Basra publishes a field guide

Dr. Huda Kazem Ahmed, a lecturer at the Marine Science Center at the University of Basra, has published a field guide entitled “Guide to Lepidoptera in Basra Governorate, Iraq.”

The guide contains 45 pages discussing the importance of lacewings as a vital indicator of the health of ecosystems and their role in preying on harmful insects such as mosquitoes and flies, as part of scientific and taxonomic research.

To supplement our scientific and practical resources, 12 species of lacewings were recorded, including nymphs and adults, which represent part of the biological diversity of the insect group in Basra Governorate. Studying them supports efforts to preserve the environment in our beloved Basra, with the hope of expanding in the future to include studies covering other groups of invertebrates in Iraqi environments.
