The Marine Science Center at the University of Basra organized a training course entitled “Coral Reefs and Their Importance in the Ecosystem.”
The workshop aimed to train specialists to understand coral environments and ways to preserve them.
The course, lectured by Dr. Huda Kazem Ahmed, included a definition of coral reefs, how they are formed, their types, their vitality, and their geographical distribution, with a focus on their role in maintaining ecological balance and their importance in the marine environment, as well as the threats that affect their survival and prosperity, especially climate change and pollution and overfishing. She also highlighted efforts to conserve and develop coral reefs through the funding of programs and projects aimed at sustaining this natural resource.
