Basra University participates in conference on civil society and its role in tackling climate change

Dr. Hassan Khalil Hassan and Dr. Zainab Fadel Al-Tamimi, both from the Marine Science Center at the University of Basra, participated in a conference entitled “The Role of Civil Society in the Integration Process to Address the Effects of Climate Change,” organized by the Popular Relief Organization and held in Basra Governorate.

The participation included the presentation of a research paper entitled

Integration between Government Administration and Community Initiatives in Addressing the Water-Climate Crisis in Basra: A Case Study

The aim of the research paper is to identify the key roles and how civil society in Basra can contribute in a practical and direct way to addressing the effects of climate change.

It also aimed to understand the obstacles that limit the effectiveness of this role, especially with regard to achieving “climate justice,” and to propose practical solutions for decision-makers and civil society organizations themselves to enhance cooperation and increase effectiveness.
