The University of Basra Organizes a Training Course Titled “Sustainability and Associated Gas Management”

The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra organized a

training course titled “Sustainability and Associated Gas Management”

The course aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how to transform associated gas from an environmental challenge into a sustainable economic opportunity

The course, led by Dr. Zainab Jawdat Musa and Dr. Inas Qasim, covered environmental compliance and emission reduction, and outlined integrated technical solutions: examining gas treatment and compression technologies, reinjecting it to enhance oil recovery, or converting it into marketable products (LPG, electricity, petrochemicals).

It also addressed economic and financial aspects:

Legislative frameworks and compliance with World Bank standards (the “Zero Flaring by 2030” initiative), as well as local and international environmental protection laws.

This includes assessing operational and financial risks, infrastructure planning, feasibility studies, and performance measurement using sustainability indicators.
